World Wide Knit In Public Day (WWKIPDay)

Bag! You’re It! Have you joined the bag-madness? I made 5 “Bag! You’re It!” Market bags in 3 days. They are so addictive and utterly practical. Save the environment – reuse your handmade bag and skip the plastic. There’s still plenty of time to join the fun: 1. Download the free pattern on Ravelry: “Bag! You’re It” by Jana Trent 2. Purchase any cotton or cotton blend in worsted weight at Yarn and You. 3. Knit your “Bag! You’re It” 4. Bring it to the store every time you shop Need help? Just follow the pattern to cast on 84 stitches, knit 9 rounds plain stockinette to the handle – then come see me at the store any time to Bag A Long with me. You’re always welcome here, and I’m always happy to help you achieve success.

“Papillon” is French for “Short Rows are Fun!” Okay, not really; it’s French for “butterfly”, but Marin Melchior, the genius behind the “Papillon” shawl has released a smaller, less intimidating version “The Butterfly Cowl”. Before I could help myself, I dipped my toes into the ‘scary’ short row scene. I can honestly say, this is the MOST fun I have had knitting in a very long time and it was not scary at all. The  cowl takes very little yarn; less than 50g each of 2 colors of sock weight. The pattern is clearly written and meticulously detailed. Mine was off the needles in 2 days. I couldn’t wait to block it. I love it. In fact, I’m going to do the ‘Full Monty/Big Baddie’ version next. Papillon Shawl or Butterfly Cowl Knit A Long – June 22

yarns: Uneek Fingering 3007 + Harvest Fingering Buckthorn © URTH yarns Would you like to start your own Papillon or Butterfly Cowl? Join me Saturday June 22 any time from 10 am to 6 pm. I’ve already casted on with Urth Yarns Uneek Fingering in color way 3004 with white as my background color. Materials: Papillon Pattern ($14 on Ravelry)* 2 skeins of Uneek fingering and 1 skein of solid colored fingering weight Stitch markers are a must Butterfly Cowl Pattern ($8 on Ravelry)* 1 skein color changing fingering weight/sock yarn 1 skein of solid color fingering weight/sock yarn Stitch markers are a must *Purchase either pattern in store and we’ll print a color copy for you. Note: These patterns require lots of counting – this is not ‘TV knitting’ nor is it something to bring to Knitting Club. Following the directions closely is a must. But the short rows are super simple to execute and you don’t even ‘pick up the wraps’. Both versions are easy to break into small chunks of knitting time, but they are so addictive, you’ll be saying ‘one more row, one more row’…ummmm, but I do recommend life-lines!
